Samekawa - Rayskin

This same (samekawa) or rayskin is directly imported from Japan en perfect to use on the tsuka of your katana, wakizashi or tanto.
The "rayskin" (sometimes called shagreen) is actually fish skin taken from specific species of stingray or shark. The price of the samekawa varies according to the size, pattern, cleanliness and size of the nodules.

Seppa are 'spacers' that are made to fit on each side of the Tsuba and their function is to permit fine adjustments that relate to the tightness of the Tsuka. Each seppa is hand ground totally flat and polished by hand so as to help provide the important tight fit to the remaining parts.

These seppa has a standard pattern and are availlable in bronze and blackened bronze.

Wood for Saya

This Nurizaya Wood for the saya of your katana or shirasaya blade is directly imported from Japan. This type of wood is ideal for a storing a shirasaya blade.

The scabbard, called saya, is made from wood and used to protect the sword. Scabbards are normally made form Ho or Nurizaya wood, are usually lacquered and have fittings appropriate to period and style.
