Kakucho Style Sageo

 

The sageo is the cord which is attached to the saya (scabbard) of the katana of wakizashi.

 

The sageo is the cord that is runing through the kurikata of a saya and and can be made of silk, cotton, leather or a chemical fiber and usually measure 180 cm or 220 cm. Once there has existed a specialized craftsmen called "kumi-himo-shi," who made these nice accessoires as well as the ito. There are a number of different methods for wrapping and tying the sageo on the saya for display and practise purposes.
